STiBaRC 2020 - News

Posted by isaacshea at 7:01 AM on 4/15/2020 EST:

As you may or may not know, a day ago we announced that there are some fairly significant changes coming to STiBaRC - and all its services - very soon. Today, I have some more news about it.

We have basically finished Stage One - I know it sounds kind of crazy that it only took a day to do, but it's mainly because it's not going to be published completely at this point. Because of the backend messiness (to put it frankly) of the site, Stage One has become more or less useless to do, as you'll see if you read on. If you are interested in seeing a "complete" Stage One version of STiBaRC, however, you can do so at:
https://bunnbuns.github.io/stibarc_web/index.html
(this version is verified, so it will actually work as a full client if you want to use it that way)

However, we are ramping up the size of Stage Two, now that I know just how much effort this is going to take to do. (You see, a day ago I hadn't actually looked at any of the site's code, but now I have).

Stage Two is now pretty much going to be a completely new client.
Herronjo is going to be bringing out some fancy new API tools that will let us do a lot more with the site, and improve on the basics behind the scenes. I'm not entirely up to scratch with what he's doing over there, so keep an eye out for anything he posts about in the future.
All this pretty much means we're going to be rebuilding STiBaRC from the ground up to work with modern interface standards and all your devices. (we hope to bring out native iOS & Android apps in the future, too).

Stage Two will probably be created as a separate client somewhere else, and then once we're content with it, we'll release it on the main client.

I should also mention the new team behind it! I'm now working alongside Bunnbuns and Verso to make this happen, so huge kudos to them.

All in all, we now have even bigger ambitions with this update, and we will be letting you know about updates in the future.

- Isaac

P.S. At this stage, the old API tools will be remaining for other clients to use, and chances are we will be releasing them once we're done. I'm probably also going to release a sitewide design guideline for anyone interested, too.
