welcome back to my late night essay ramblings. it has been a long time since i have done one!

looking back at my second ep

in 2020, i had many digital store releases (attached you can see just how many). 🤡

although i said memory lane was going to be my final 2020 release (a few posts ago of mine where i rambled on what i'd work on in the future and looking back at previous projects), the undertow ep was a very last minute release.

looking back at the undertow ep, it is a project that is somewhat embarrassing. while other projects of mine are much more embarrassing (life, edgy poem book, stibarc comics, aurora, etc.), i still kind of don't like it lol.

although marketed as "pop" on the store, tracks like "24/7" and "skyline" have more of a "electronic" incorporation to them while while "press forward" retains the sounds found on the previous album (it was originally planned to be on memory lane, but was removed from the track list).

i originally planned for just the title track of the ep to be released only. a few of these tracks, along with the title track, were originally made for @herronjo for a project of his. having multiple of these tracks just sitting unreleased, i planned for a second full album. in the end, i just decided on an ep because that was easier and i'm quite lazy.

i suppose another reason for this release was to see what is so "hype" about electronic and hip hop these days. to simply sum it up, i do not listen to that type of stuff really. sure, i have a few hip hop songs saved from the early 2000's and 90's in my library, but the modern songs in that genre simply are horrendous. to be honest, my music library consists mainly of female country artists from the 00's and early 10's along with 90's alt bands and 00's pop rock. majority of todays teenagers and young adults simply are not into those genres/artists.

a lot of people i know (both online and the real world) love electronic and hip hop. they have generally liked the undertow ep better than memory lane due to the ep consisting of similar genres they typically listen to.

some of those people release to stores in those genres, gaining more and more listeners with each release. other people tend to also berate me for using garageband. many of the releases i have tend to use some form of sample and/or loop from garageband. i personally made sure the undertow ep had at least one per track just to further annoy those people. what is so ironic though is that some of those people use other programs such as auxy for example.

to summarize, the sounds of this ep simply are not something i typically listen to and/or enjoy. listeners have given it more praise compared to my previous full album, but this ep did not gain as much attention compared to the release of memory lane or my previous promotional ep, golden days. while i have debated on removing the undertow ep from stores, i decided not to. while i may not really like it, its tolerable and others listen to it sometime.

what's in the future?

for future projects though (whether its music, a new service, game, whatever), i want to prioritize on making it to where i am happy myself, rather than pleasing the "audience/consumer". you cannot please everyone, there is always that one person who just simply hates what was made.

i enjoyed the release of memory lane better than i did this ep, but it still had its letdowns. for the time being, i have decided to stop making projects as a whole. i find it more enjoyable watching my friends make things instead.

if i do come back to music, i want to take it to the next level. not happening anytime soon though. maybe i can go back to making verana (a discord bot i made in 2017-18) or something, i'm not sure.

if you managed to read this entire thing, congrats. you just wasted a few minutes of your life reading something utterly useless. i know i wasted my time typing this. i also am very lazy in checking to see if everything was spelled correctly and is grammatically correct, so please enjoy the errors! as usual, i made everything in lower case just to mess with a few certain people.
